The Mallet showroom, Sadashivanagar
The Mallet Studio was one of the first and the most exciting projects - adaptive reuse of the existing residence to be facelifted and turned to a contemporary furniture studio.
Industrial style of architecture was well suited for this project - the studio has a ‘rustic cement and black metal’ theme to compliment the exhibition of designer solid wood furniture. Following a mellow grey and black theme throughout, the light colours and texture of the wood along with the subtle strokes of bright orange, add splash of colour and break the monotony around each floor. Moreover, feature walls on each floor are cladded with bricks to add a touch of warmth to the surrounding.
In an effort to upcycle resources and use materials sustainably, most of the metal work features in the showroom have been refurbished from upcycled old metal parts and leftovers. One can find exposed wiring and bare metal framework supporting various elements around the showroom.
Exposed wiring not only adds a rustic touch, but also helps elevate the industrial theme setting. It is the juxtaposition of the traditionality of wood and the modernity of the metal surfaces that catch one’s attention. One can also find a plethora of old metal gears, used license plates, perforated metal sheets, reinforcement bars and succulents nestled in delicate planters, a wash of soft furnishings and exquisite charcoal artwork, all in perfect harmony, in this carefully curated studio.
